A Message from the CEO
Happy New Year! As we turn the calendar, it is incredible to realize that we have already crossed the midpoint of our 2025-2026 school year journey. With only four to five months remaining, we find ourselves at a pivotal moment. We have an opportunity to reignite the same passion and high expectations that fueled our first day of school.
Now is the time to pour our collective energy into the finish line. By delivering deeply engaging instruction and strengthening our vibrant school culture through our Emulation and House Systems, we empower every student to reach for the stars. Excellence is not just a goal; it is a standard within our grasp. Let’s hit the ground running and finish this race with the strength, heart and brilliance our students deserve!

Honoring a Career of Financial Leadership
We recently bid a bittersweet farewell to our esteemed Vice President of Finance, Elaine Keller, as she embarks on her well-deserved retirement. Elaine has been a cornerstone of our leadership team. Her meticulous attention to detail and unwavering professionalism were perfectly balanced by her quick wit and a smile that brightened every executive retreat. While we will deeply miss her presence in our meetings, we are thrilled for her as she starts this exciting new chapter.
In true EEG fashion, we honored her legacy with a celebration like no other. We donned our best western gear for a themed retirement bash to thank Elaine for her years of dedicated service. The day was filled with laughter, incredible barbecue, “cold, cola beverages” and heartfelt farewells. We wish Elaine nothing but success and endless fun in her retirement.
The High School Hub
The month of December was a whirlwind of milestone achievements and unforgettable moments across our high schools. Take a closer look at the highlights that defined our students’ successes as we closed out the year.
Student Chefs Cater with Professional Flair
Akron Career Tech High School – The retirement festivities for Elaine Keller were elevated to a professional level thanks to the exceptional talents of our student culinary team. Under the expert guidance of their instructor, Mr. Dreher, these aspiring chefs curated and served an array of exquisite appetizers that left every team member impressed. From the precision of the food preparation to the delicious flavors presented, it was clear that hours of practice went into every bite.
Beyond the menu, the students’ professionalism was truly a highlight. They navigated the event with impeccable hospitality and grace, demonstrating exactly what it means to be career-ready. A huge congratulations to Principal Williams, Mr. Dreher and the talented culinary students of ACT for a job well done.
A Milestone for Holistic Success
Engage High School –We are thrilled to extend a heartfelt congratulations to Principal Cherrel’ Barrow and the Engage High School community on their transformative new partnership with Mahajan Therapeutics. This collaboration marks a bold step forward in our mission to support the whole child.

The K-8 Chronicles
December was a powerhouse month for our K–8 schools. Our younger scholars have been busy carving out their own path to success through creativity and hard work. Check out the highlights below to see how our students are finishing the year strong.
The Pulse of Potential
Beacon Academy – Last month, sixteen of Beacon Academy’s promising 7th and 8th grade girls traveled to Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women event. This impactful gathering was designed to ignite a passion for STEM careers and empower young women to envision themselves in medical and technical fields.
The day offered an extraordinary hands-on immersion into the world of medicine. Students engaged directly with professors and medical scholars, gaining the rare opportunity to examine a real human heart. Participants also developed life-saving skills, including:
Stethoscope proficiency and heart-rate monitoring
Essential CPR techniques and AED operation
Direct networking with female professionals in architecture, physical therapy, engineering, and the natural gas industry
The experience concluded with a powerful panel discussion where female leaders and college students shared insights on navigating the STEM landscape. The return journey was filled with enthusiastic reflections on the medical campus and the newfound friendships formed throughout the day. Witnessing the inspiration and joy sparked by this event was a significant milestone for the school’s commitment to career-readiness and student growth.
Cheer & Dance Team Dazzles at Lakewood Holiday Parade
Innovation Academy West – The streets of Lakewood were filled with energy and school spirit as the Innovation Academy West Cheer & Dance Team took center stage. Led by the dedicated Ms. Lewis, our talented performers delivered a high-octane routine that left the crowd cheering and the community inspired.
Our students truly shined, radiating confidence and joy with every move. The performance was a masterclass in coordination and energy, serving as a vibrant testament to the countless hours of hard work and disciplined practice put in behind the scenes. Under Ms. Lewis’s expert guidance, the team showcased more than just a routine. They represented the heart and pride of IAW. Seeing our scholars engage with the community and showcase their incredible talent was a beautiful highlight of the holiday season.
Future Healers in the Making
Cincinnati Technology Academy – Our 6th–8th grade students were treated to an extraordinary deep dive into the world of healthcare when doctors and nurses from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital visited our campus. This immersive experience went far beyond a standard career talk, offering our scholars a hands-on look at the life-saving work performed daily within a world-class hospital system.
The visit focused on career exploration and skill-building, allowing students to step into the shoes of medical professionals. Through interactive stations and expert demonstrations, students explored high-demand roles and practiced critical techniques, including:
Learning the precision required for surgical recovery.
Understanding the science of breath and lung health.
Gaining insight into the vital process of drawing blood for diagnostics.
Mastering the fundamentals of CPR and the life-saving application of tourniquets.
This mentorship opportunity allowed our middle schoolers to ask thoughtful questions and envision their own futures within the medical field. By connecting our students with industry leaders, we continue to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world impact. A huge thank you to the team at Cincinnati Children’s for inspiring the next generation of healthcare heroes.
STEAM, Spirit and Step
South Side Academy – SSA took center stage this season, proudly participating in the Youngstown City Holiday Parade with a showcase that captured the heart of our school. Our vibrant float was a true reflection of the SSA spirit, highlighting our cutting-edge STEAM initiatives and the incredible discipline and rhythm of our award-winning Step Team.
Beyond the sights and sounds, the event was a celebration of our deep-rooted engagement with the Youngstown community. It was a joyful milestone for our students, staff and families, who walked together to represent our school with undeniable pride.
